英语与汉语是完全不同的两种语言，所以在翻译的时候不能逐字逐句去翻，因为以英语为母语者与我们看问题的角度不一样，因此造成了表达方式的不同。如隐形眼镜，我们说“隐形”，是因为一个人戴着隐形眼镜是不容易被看出来的，但英语说contact lenses，直译是“接触镜片”，因为他们认为隐形眼镜是跟眼睛直接接触的。

另一个例子是，我们说被淋成了“落汤鸡”，而以英语为母语者说a drowned rat，直译是“被淹过的老鼠”，这也印证了他们跟我们看问题的角度不一样。

但是，无论是隐形眼镜与contact lenses，还是落汤鸡与a drowned rat却有着密切的逻辑共性，这是不言而喻的，这就导致了一些“英雄所见略同”（great minds think alike）的例子，但这是很少见的，除非是巧合，如

MacMillan English Dictionary – American这样解释add fuel to the fire：“to make a bad situation even worse by saying or doing something that makes someone angry”，这与中文几乎是一一对应的。

与中文的“舔屏”完全对应。

The charity Cancer Research UK is launching a campaign against junk food TV ads.

It says the rise in childhood obesity is a huge concern and a growing epidemic, and it's "clear the restrictions already in place during children's TV shows aren't enough".

Children in Oxfordshire were asked how they reacted to the ads. One said he wanted to "lick the screen".
