健身在英语里的N种说法

“健身”、“锻炼”、“运动”在英语里有很多表达方式,但意思有微小的差别:

Working out: 健身,通常指在健身房

Exercise: 所有的锻炼、运动基本都包括在内

Bodybuilding: 健美

Fitness: 强身健体,形容全方位良好的身体状态,涵盖的范围最广

There're many expressions for that, but they mean slightly different things: 有很多表示“锻炼”、“健身”的词,但他们的意思有微妙的差别

Exercise incorporates everything, whether you're swimming or lifting: “Exercise”涵盖的范围最广,各种形式的锻炼,不管是游泳还是举重,都算“exercising”

If you say you're working out, it implies that you're in the gym: 在英语里如果你跟别人说你在“work out”,大家普遍会认为你是在健身房锻炼

If you're running outdoors, you wouldn't say "I'm working out": 如果你在户外跑步,你不会说“I'm working out”

You would say "I'm going for a run": 通常跑步会独立说“I'm going for a run"

Bodybuilding: 健美

Muscles: 肌肉

健身是一种生活态度

Fitness更多是一种追求健康的生活态度,有些人坚持运动,有些人吃得健康。

If you're into fitness, it doesn't mean you're into bodybuilding: 如果你说自己“into fitness”, 这个指的不是喜欢健美

You could be into yoga, eating right, focusing on your diet, running, swimming, rock climbing, martial arts: 你可能喜欢瑜伽,很注意饮食,或者是对跑步,游泳,攀岩,武术感兴趣

Fitness implies a healthy and balanced lifestyle, not just exercise, but dietary as well: Fitness指的是一种很健康很均衡的生活方式,不仅是锻炼,饮食也是一部分

A way of life: 一种生活方式、生活态度

值得注意的语言点

  • Spencer和Jenny这集节目里一直用到“into”这个词。它的意思是很喜欢、很着迷一件事。如果你爱健身,口语里最好的说法就是“I'm into working out", "I'm into fitness".

  • 谈到健身、健康,“balanced"这个词也很常用,意思就是均衡的、平衡的;

  • 大家要特别注意Diet (形容词dietary)这个词,它可以是减肥的意思。比如“I'm going on a diet", 但是它另外一个意思就是饮食、膳食。

这期节目里其它重要的语言点我们也用红色标出了,大家可以着重学习一下;

不同身型、不同说法

同样是健身、练肌肉,英语里有很多不同的词,来形容不同的身材;

If you say someone is fit, they don't have to be muscular, but they look toned at least: 说一个人“fit”, 他不一定要肌肉很大块,但至少看上去身材不错

toned and tight: 身材紧致

In essence, they are healthy: 总而言之就是他们很健康

muscular: 肌肉发达

muscle head: 四肢发达、头脑简单暗,贬义词

ripped: 肌肉精干型

If you say someone is ripped, it means their body fat percentage is low and they look sculpted: 说一个人"ripped",那他应该是体质很低,肌肉看上去跟雕刻出来的一样

You don't have to be huge to be ripped, for example Bruce Lee was ripped: 一个“ripped”的人不一定要人高马大、大块肌肉,比如李小龙,就是“ripped”的代表

最常说的肌肉类型,英语怎么说?

见过Spencer的人都知道,他的手臂可谓是让人望而生畏!

Spencer's got huge arms: Spencer的手臂练得非常壮

Biceps: 二头肌

Triceps: 三头肌

Weightlifting, lift weights: 举重

Body weight workouts, for example pull-ups: 靠身体自重来进行的锻炼,比如引体向上

Dumbbells: 哑铃

Barbells: 杠铃

人鱼线、马甲线

这两个被炒得很热的中文词,英语怎么说?

可以叫V lines,因为线条很像V字型。

腹肌则是abs。美国人日常用abs一词更多,V lines这个概念似乎没有中国这么热。比如Google, Instagram上的搜索,关键词"abs"要比"v lines"多得多。

I want toned abs: 我想要紧致的腹肌

core strength exercises: 核心肌群训练

V lines (not mermaid lines): 人鱼线

Many people are obsessed with getting these lines: 很多人特别迷这两条线

Looking and feeling good is important, but sometimes people go overboard: 锻炼是为了身材好,心情好,但有些人太极端了

A while back, the A4 waist meme was trending: 前一阵子,A4腰风靡一时

I like a girl with a nice, developed waist: 我喜欢女生稍微有点腰

butt: 臀部

wide hips: 宽的胯部

A waist that's too thin might come off as sickly: 腰瘦过头了可能看起来会有些病态

There's a point where something that's healthy becomes unhealthy: 凡事都有个度,如果做过了头,健康的东西也变的不健康了

Too much of a good thing is a bad thing: 过犹不及

说到腹肌,美国网络上有句话非常红,也很有道理,分享给大家

30% gym, 70% diet: 三分靠健身、七分靠饮食

Abs are carved in the kitchen, built in the gym: 腹肌是在厨房里塑造出来的,在健身房里练出来的

What's your workout routine? 你都练什么?

Spencer不愧是健身达人,去健身房一次最少也要45分钟,一般一次要一个半到两个半小时。看来要出效果,还是得下苦功夫!Jenny去健身最喜欢的项目是ab cruncher,就是专门练腹肌的一个“虐腹神器”。

Ab cruncher: 腹肌锻炼器

Anaerobic: 无氧的

Cardio, aerobic: 有氧的

What's your workout routine?: 你健身一般做哪些项目?

How long do your workouts normally last?: 一般去健身房一次锻炼多久?

The shortest is around 45 minutes, but usually I work out for one and a half to two and ahalf hours: 最少是45分钟,当我通常会花一个半到两个半小时

健康饮食最重要

想要好身材,不仅要运动, 最根本的是健康、科学的饮食。图上这句话,就很好概括了这一点:"You are what you eat."

Since summer's around the corner, and a lot of people want to get in shape, so what's the best routine for losing weight? 夏天快到了,很多人想塑身,那么要减肥的话怎么锻炼最好呢?

How many times a week should we work out, and what kind of exercise should we do? 一周要去健身几次,最好做一些什么运动?

Exercise is important, but you are what you eat, so food is the biggest factor: 锻炼很重要,但吃才是最重要的

Some people will starve themselves and eat very little, but that's a big mistake: 有的人不吃,或者吃得很少,但这是个大误区

If you don't eat, it slows down your metabolism: 如果你不吃,新陈代谢就会慢

When that happens, your body goes into survival mode by preserving the fat and feast on your muscle: 这样一来你的身体会进入一种求生模式,存储脂肪,消耗肌肉

You might weigh less, but your body fat goes up: 也许你体重会减下来,但你的体脂会升高

You might become "skinny fat": 可能变成瘦胖子

It's not about how much you weigh but how much fat is on your body: 关键不是你体重多少,而是你身体上有多少脂肪

最后我们说说在美国健身的事儿

美国健身房多少钱?

在北美,健身可以说是一个全民运动。上期节目中我们也提到Adam的爸爸七十岁了还每天去健身房健身。

那在美国健身价格如何呢?

  • 许多美国的大学都有自己的健身房,一般对在校学生是免费开放的,就算收费也非常的便宜,可能两块钱一次之类的。

  • 如果你在商业健身房办卡,一般一个月40、50美金,年卡可能五、六百刀。

  • 小编所在的地方有些健身房会推出家庭套餐,鼓励大家带动家人一起健身,但前提是要两个人住址一样才可以办理。

美国健身房礼仪,用完器械一定要擦!

健身房也有健身房的礼节,美国著名网站Huffington Post有篇文章整理出了13 Rules of Gym Etiquette,13条健身房的礼节,小编这里抽两条特别重要的说:

  • Wipe off your sweat after you work out: 运动完把汗都擦掉

    *美国健身房器械旁边通常都会放wet wipes(湿纸巾), 目的不是擦你自己,而是擦器械*

  • If you can bench 300 lbs, congratulations. Brag about it on Facebook, but don’t leave all the plates on the bar for the next person to remove: 如果你杠铃能举300磅,恭喜你!但咬炫耀的话请上脸书,别把杠铃片都留在杆子上,等着下个人帮你卸。
